In this chapter, Shri Krishna discusses the nature of faith, food, sacrifice, and austerity.
โ ๐๐ฎ๐ถ๐๐ต:
Every human being is born with innate faith, which can be of three kinds: sฤttvic (pure), rฤjasic (passionate), or tฤmasic (ignorant). Our actions are determined by the nature of our faith.
โ ๐๐ผ๐ผ๐ฑ:
The food we choose to eat reflects our disposition. Those in the mode of goodness prefer foods that are healthy and promote well-being. Those in the mode of passion prefer foods that are stimulating and intense. Those in the mode of ignorance prefer foods that are stale, impure, and overcooked.
โ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ:
Sacrifice performed with faith and according to scriptural injunctions is considered to be in the mode of goodness. Sacrifice performed for material benefit or with a hypocritical aim is in the mode of passion. Sacrifice devoid of faith and contrary to the scriptures is in the mode of ignorance.
โ ๐๐๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐:
Austerity of the body involves worship of the Supreme Lord, the Brahmins, the spiritual master, the wise, and the elders. Austerity of speech involves using words that are truthful, inoffensive, and beneficial. Austerity of the mind involves serenity of thought, gentleness, silence, self-control, and purity of purpose. Austerity performed with ostentation for the sake of gaining honor, respect, and adoration is in the mode of passion. Austerity performed by those with confused notions, and which involves torturing the self or harming others, is in the mode of ignorance.

Charity given to a worthy person simply because it is right to give is in the mode of goodness. Charity given with reluctance, with the hope of a return or in expectation of a reward, is in the mode of passion. Charity given at the wrong place and time to unworthy persons, without showing respect, or with contempt, is in the mode of ignorance.
โ ๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ถ๐ด๐ป๐ถ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ข๐บ, ๐ง๐ฎ๐, ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐:
The words "Om Tat Sat" are symbolic representations of the Supreme Absolute Truth. They are used by expounders of the Vedas when performing acts of sacrifice, offering charity, or undertaking penance.
โ ๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐บ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ฎ๐ถ๐๐ต:
Any act that is performed without faith is considered to be "Asat" and is useless both in this world and the next.

Krishna explains to Arjuna that people's food choices align with the nature of their mindsโsฤttvic, rฤjasic, or tฤmasic. Those with a sฤttvic mind prefer nutritious food for health and happiness. Tฤmasic minds opt for impure, decomposed food, while rฤjasic minds lean towards overly intense and spicy options.
